Who Are We?

Reyna Mata

Reyna is a junior at the California State University Dominguez Hills. Working on her undergraduate in Mathematics she wishes to enter the teaching field at the secondary education level. Reyna is part of the Noyce Scholarship program on campus where she interacts with other students and faculty working towards creating tomorrow’s teachers. She is also part of the W.I.S.E. program on campus, where women in stem education help build each other up and promote work and research in related fields.  Reyna also works closely with Los Angeles Unified School District, as she is a teaching aid in their work study program. Here in class experience is gained while working closely with student, helping with classroom management, among other tasks. When she isn’t filling her time in the classroom or in her studies, she’s often exploring the greater Los Angeles area, trying new restaurants, foods, and escape rooms, puzzle rooms in which players have typically an hour to unlock themselves from, or spending time with her long term partner.

Jasper Trias

Jasper majors in Studio Art and minors in Design, attending California State University Dominguez Hills. As a transfer student, and Photographer, he aspires to be a self-made Studio Artist. He has created works in both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional fields, including Film Photography, Charcoal Drawings, and Ceramic Work. He is currently aiming to acquire his Bachelors of Fine Art, which he will utilize to network his artworks farther. He hopes one day to open up an Art show or Exhibition, showcasing not only his arts, but art from other artists as well. He’s born and raised in Long Beach, but an avid traveler to all neighboring cities in Southern California, enjoying the atmosphere of uncharted areas. He finds inspiration in the beauty of life. To support his schooling, he works at a Coffee Shop in Signal Hill as a part-time Barista. He’s a daily coffee drinker, who has an open-mind to all subjects of life, enjoying it’s visual art.

 

Alecs Comahig

As a new Toro and transfer student at California State University of Dominguez Hills, Alecs is studying as a biology major with an emphasis on microbiology and a recently filed minor for Asian Pacifics Studies.  She plans to take her first MCAT exam in the spring and apply for medical school in the summer of 2018.  She has volunteered at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County and worked with children at the Tustin Unified School District.  Because of her relations with the teachers and students, she is also a private tutor for grades 6-12.  Alecs has always been fond of children, and working with them over the years has encouraged her to consider specializing in pediatrics, however, because the medical field is so vast, she is waiting for more exposure in various fields as she furthers her studies in the classroom and laboratory.  Aside from being a full time student and a tutor, she also works part time in retail, and is looking to find ways to gain experience in clinical environments.  When there is time for breaks, she  enjoys traveling and visiting her family in the Philippines and stopping by neighboring countries in Asia.

Lorraine Pina

Lorraine is a Junior  Student at California State University of Dominguez Hills, Lorraine is working on her Undergraduate Degree  in Child Development. She hopes one day  to become a Master Teacher at a Preschool. Lorraine works at Friendship Academy as a Associate Teacher in the Fish Classroom. She is Currently working on gaining her Bachelor degree so she can further herself in Child Development and move up to a higher position in the field. She is from Carson.  When she is not working or at school Lorraine is Coaching  Girls Softball in the Carson and Wilmington Community from the ages of 6-11 years old. She has been Coaching Girls Softball for four years and loves what she does.She loves to give back to her community and helped the youth gain knowledge in the classroom and teach them life skills and the skills and fundamentals to play softball.  She also plays for a Co Ed Softball team at the parks in Carson.  She has a passion and calling for working with children in the classroom and on the field. Asides from working, going to school fulltime and coaching Lorraine spends her free time going to the movies, the  mall, attend sports events, travel,and hangout with friends and family. Lorraine is a Sports Fanatic and  has been playing Softball since 5 years old.
